Haleftiras Notches Career-High Assist Total Against Chapman

Box Score

PASADENA (Jan. 24, 2018) – Junior guard Nika Haleftiras (San Diego, Calif. / Our Lady of Peace) found opportunities for her teammates early and often, resulting in a career-high assist game when Caltech women's basketball hosted Chapman University on Saturday evening.

Haleftiras assisted on seven Caltech field goals and added eight points of her own in addition to a pair of rebounds. Six of her points came from three-point territory. The junior's ball movement took center stage, however as it allowed sophomore forward Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) to achieve a career-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Junior center Elizabeth Eiden (White Plains, N.Y. / Holy Child) also benefited from Haleftiras' giving ways with a team-best 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Eiden's first quarter might have been her most dominant of the season, as she scored went 5-for-6 from short range, providing the visiting Panthers with a problem they had to act quickly to solve. The strong shooting in front court allowed the hosts to shoot a collective 50-percent from the field, nearly three-percent more than the volume-oriented visitors.

Eiden's dominant display in the first quarter lit a spark amongst the rest of her teammates, as it ended up being one of the Beavers' most inspired quarters, until the fourth quarter rolled around and the home team outscored the first-place Panthers, 19-14. It also provided Caltech with a special moment when freshman guard Amy Wang (Colorado Springs, Col. / Pine Creek) found junior guard Madelyn Stroder (Springfield, Mo. / Greenwood Laboratory) in the game's final minute to allow the junior to connect on her first field goal of the season and second of her Caltech career.

Head Coach Bridgette Reyes and the Beavers will host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday, Jan. 31, a team which they beat on the road earlier in the month.
