PASADENA (Feb. 1, 2020) – Senior guard Grace Peng (San Ramon, Calif. / California) took another step towards the Caltech women's basketball scoring record on Saturday afternoon when the Beavers took on the University of La Verne on home floor.

Peng dropped 20 points on the Leopards and especially excelled at the free-throw line. The senior went 8-for-9 at the line and also converted on a pair of three-pointers while leading the Caltech defense with three steals. The defense proved to be a strong point for the home team as the Beavers stole the ball nine times and forced the Leopards into coughing it up on a total of 17 occasions. Freshman guard Faith Pinney (Spokane, Wash. / Gonzaga Preparatory School), like Peng made significant defensive contributions with three steals of her own to go with six rebounds.

Peng now finds herself 46 points away from breaking the program scoring record last set by Stephanie Wong '16 (1,333). To achieve the feat, Peng will have to average 9.2 points per game over the Beavers' final five games, three of which are at home. On Saturday, the senior received further help on the scoring from freshman Sahana Saikumar (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) and senior Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon), who had 12 and 15 points respectively.

Head Coach Bridgette Reyes and the Beavers will have Wednesday off but will look to return to the win column at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m.
