PASADENA (Feb. 12, 2020) – The Caltech women's basketball team finished strong despite some early adversity in Wednesday's SCIAC home game with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

The Beavers outscored the Sagehens by seven points in the fourth quarter and had two players secure double-doubles in the last 90 seconds of the game. Freshman forward Sahana Saikumar (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds while senior forward Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) had 14 points and 10 rebounds in addition to a 50-50 split between offensive and defensive board. Saikumar also turned in an excellent statistical performance on defense, leading the home team with three steals and two blocks.

Freshman guard Faith Pinney (Spokane, Wash. / Gonzaga Preparatory School), meanwhile, showed her improved ability to facilitate by leading the Beavers with five assists. Senior guard Grace Peng (San Ramon, Calif. / California), who is chasing down the career scoring record, brought the achievement a little closer to reality by scoring 22 points, a whopping 18 of which came during the second half. The senior has now played the full 40-minutes on 11 different occasions this year, and can break Stephanie Wong '16's scoring record with a 10-point performance in her next outing. By making a total of nine shots from the field, Peng also broke the career field goals record previously owned by former teammate Kate Lewis '17.

Head Coach Bridgette Reyes and the Beavers will return home on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host first-place University of Redlands for a 7 o' clock game.
