Box Score PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2021) – Senior libero Megan Wang (Henderson, Nev. / Advanced Tech. Acad.) continued to assert herself with the high-level defense that already earned her the Caltech volleyball career digs record two years ago in a lopsided defeat to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday afternoon.
Wang registered 14 digs and three assists while flinging herself all over the court against a Sagehens onslaught, as Caltech was able to block just two attacks over three sets. Several quick-reaction second-touch saves of Wang's kept unconventional attacks going, though to a disappointing end as the Beavers fell in three sets.
The Sagehens took control early in every set, including a 7-0 start to the second. Caltech finally mustered a brief run after going down 9-3 and eventually 19-11 in the third, registering four straight points with Wang serving and a final of the night on an assist, but the Panthers finished the match with five straight points.
Senior Alison Noyes (Falmouth, Maine / Falmouth) and junior Dallas Taylor (Phoenix, Ariz. / Saguaro) combined for 11 of the Beavers' season-low 20 kills and registered a block apieces, while sophomore Halle Blend (Farmers Branch, Texas / Hockaday) served up three aces.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will look to pick up another elusive SCIAC win at Whittier College on Tuesday.
