Box Score LA VERNE, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2021) – Caltech volleyball thoroughly dominated in a 25-9 first set win at the University of La Verne Leopards for the final road match of the 2021 season, but ran out of gas down the stretch in a 3-1 defeat.
The Beavers traded points to open the set but then turned up the heat with an 11-1 run including nine kills and two assisted blocks, during which La Verne burned both of its timeouts. Caltech hit for an impressive .424 kill percentage on 17 kills in the set against just three errors.
Sophomore Claire Perhach (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek) spotlighted on the scoresheet with 13 kills and a .344 hitting percentage with three block assists in the match. Right behind her was senior Alison Noyes (Falmouth, Maine / Falmouth) with 11 kills and a trio of block assists for 12.5 points. Senior Sydney Richardson (Granite Bay, Calif. / Roseville) equaled Perhach and Noyes with three block assists and added three kills, while senior Megan Wang (Henderson, Nev. / Advanced Tech. Acad.) paced the squad with 16 digs - one ahead of both classmate Isabell Yang (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) and sophomore Halle Blend (Farmers Branch, Texas / Hockaday).
Head coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers return home for Senior Night on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. as they host California Lutheran University.
