Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2021) – The Beavers fought hard in the opening set Tuesday night against a resilient Poets squad, answering their scoring runs and earning four leads to hold Whittier College close.
The hosts earned the first three points of the match, but then a service error followed by two attacking errors gifted Caltech a tie score. Later, down 8-4, the Beavers stormed ahead to a 9-8 lead by way of some more errant Whittier attacking, and finally led the Poets 13-12 before the home side regained control en route to victory. The Beavers were unable to overcome early deficits in the final two sets for a three-set defeat.
Senior Allison Noyes (Falmouth, Maine / Falmouth) contributed a team-high 9.5 individual points with eight kills, one service ace and a block assist. Sophomore Claire Perhach (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek) added five kills and a block assist for 5.5 points, while sophomores Gabriella Twombly (Weston, Fla. / Archbishop McCarthy) and Helen Brackney (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) registered a kill apiece in their lone set of work.
Head Coach Jon Gardner and the Beavers will return home for a Friday night match against the University of La Verne on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
