Box Score PASADENA, Calif. (Sep. 28, 2021) – Caltech volleyball continued its SCIAC campaign Tuesday night, battling out an exciting three-setter and nearly stealing one against undefeated national No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Caltech amassed its largest lead of the match in the third set, pulling ahead 11-6 and forcing the Athenas to call their first timeout of the match. The Beavers then extended their lead to six points two more times, leading 13-7 before the visitors would mount their comeback. Despite the more lopsided score line in set two, the Beavers attacked with increasing accuracy as the night went on, hitting .346 as a team in the last frame on another night where their front-row hitters carried the day.
Junior Dallas Taylor (Phoenix, Ariz. / Saguaro) shined on offense, tallying 12.5 individual points on her 10 kills (.529 hitting percentage) and five block assists. Senior Allison Noyes (Falmouth, Maine / Falmouth) contributed an additional nine kills on a match-best .600 hitting percentage and a block assist, while sophomore Helen Brackney (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) chipped in a career-high three block assists and classmate Claire Perhach (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek) notched six kills and eight digs. Senior libero Megan Wang (Henderson, Nev. / Advanced Technologies Academy) laid out for 11 digs, keeping the ball alive to extend several rallies for Caltech despite facing a potent attack that saw all six hitters to register kills post percentage above .300.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will head down to Orange County on Friday to face Chapman University.
