THOUSAND OAKS, Calf. (Jan. 19, 2022) – Undeterred by the host Regals racking up a 20-point lead, the Caltech women's basketball team mounted a second half rally at California Lutheran University on Wednesday night that came within just a couple possessions of stealing a road victory.

The Beavers trailed by a score of 42-22 just over a minute and a half into the third quarter, but they were undeterred by the margin and kicked up the throttle to mount a stunning comeback that certainly struck fear into the home team. A combination of efficient offense and effective ball control led to Caltech outscoring Cal Lutheran 22-6 for the rest of the period to trail by just 48-44 going into the fourth quarter.

Sophomore guard Hope Arnett (Torrance, Calif. / Chadwick School) scored a team-high eight points in the third, finishing the game with 17 to make it three games in a row scoring in double figures. She additionally swiped a game-high four steals in the contest.

Junior forward Sahana Saikumar (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) amassed 20 points, marking her sixth straight game scoring 20 or more. She additionally blocked five Cal Lutheran shots to further cement her position as the SCIAC's top shot blocker with 40 on the season at an average of 3.1 per game. Her five assists were a tie for the game high with junior guard Faith Pinney (Spokane, Wash. / Gonzga Preparatory School). Freshman Kathryn Edwards (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) was one rebound shy of a double-double, grabbing nine boards including a team high of four offensive rebounds, while racking up 18 points, three steals and two assists.
