Box Score ORANGE, Calif. (Jan. 22, 2022) – The Caltech women's basketball team fell to the Chapman University Panthers on Saturday afternoon, 93-67. The Beavers competed but were never able to take a lead on the Panthers, who are playing as well as anyone in the conference at the season's midway point.
Junior
Sahana Saikumar (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) once again led the Beavers on offense with 15 points, followed closely by rookie
Kathryn Edwards (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) who added 13. Both of these season-leading offensive players attempted to keep the Beavers in the contest, but along with their teammates, faced a steep uphill climb. Sophomore
Claire Perhach (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek) was fantastic in coming off the bench, adding eight points while pulling down eight rebounds.
The Beavers battled early but found themselves down 10 points halfway through the first quarter and went into the half trailing 48-31. Unfortunately, things didn't get much better for Caltech after the intermission. Nearing the end of the third quarter, the Beavers found themselves down by 30 points, but made a valiant effort in the fourth, winning that frame and pulling the game back to a 26-point deficit by game's end. Facing as hot of a shooting opponent as they have all year, Caltech struggled to disrupt the Panthers offense which shot 57.1 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc.
After having played three consecutive road games in conference, Head Coach Bridgette Reyes and the Beavers return home to face the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. inside the Braun Athletic Center.
