Swim & Dive Sets New Top 10s at CMS Tri-Meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Caltech faced off against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Chapman University's Men's and Women's Swim & Dive programs Saturday morning, and the Beavers put up seven new top-10 times in the program record books.

Beginning with the 200 Medley Relay, the men's team of Simon Hu, Jason Lin, Pierre Zeineddin and Evan Zhang finished in 1:35.02, just behind the CMS team and almost five seconds ahead of the first Chapman team to finish. The time ranks seventh-best in Caltech history.
In the Women's 200 Medley Relay, Caltech's "A" team of Natalie Lee, Charlotte Zhang, Mila Hong and Brooke Williams also posted a program seventh-best time of 1:53.60.

Noteworthy Women's performances highlighted the Women's 1000 Freestyle, in which Elizabeth Won posted a program fourth-best 11:17.03 finish for third place in the event, and Brea Swartwood's 1:13.50 time in the Women's 100 Breaststroke ranks seventh all-time for the Beavers.

Simon Hu posted a program No. 9 time in the Men's 100 Backstroke, his 52.79 time also claiming second place in the heat. He did even better in the Men's 200 Backstroke, winning the heat in 1:55.41 for the No. 4 spot in the Caltech top 10.

And the Men's 200 Free Relay saw Evan Zhang, Naci Keskin, Chris Pukszta and Leo Yang take second overall at 1:25.69, two seconds ahead of the Chapman "A" team and fifth best in Caltech's records. The feat was even more notable because Leo Yang anchored the relay with a 21.06 split just about four minutes after finishing second overall in the Men's 400 IM. His relay split was even faster than his 50 Freestyle time of 21.59 in the first half of the meet.

Diver Jana Woo led the Beavers with a 235.90 score and third place overall in the one-meter event, and scored 215.45 on the three-meter board.

"We competed hard and had some great performances today against some very tough competition," Head Coach Andy Brabson said. "I was happy to see our swimmers and divers implement some of the mental and technical adjustments that we have been working on. The team is in a good place moving into our biggest test of the season thus far at the Occidental Invite next weekend."
