PASADENA, Calif. – The Caltech women's basketball team returned home to Braun Gym to host the Whitman College Blues from Walla Walla, Washington.
The night started off frustrating for both sides as the first basket came on the eighth shot of the game; nothing seemed to want to fall through the hoop despite getting good looks and finding open lanes. Caltech finally got on the board with 4:25 left in the opening frame by way of a well-placed jumper by
Saumya Chauhan to cut Whitman's lead to 6-2. At that point, two teams were shooting a combined 4-for-23 from the field, but ball control was strong as neither side had yet committed a turnover.
Unfazed by a rough first half, Caltech persisted and fought back in the second aided strongly by a team-high 11 points from
Sahana Saikumar, who also finished the game with a team-high six rebounds.
Kathryn Edwards found her stride and contributed 10 points along with a game-high four steals.
Kodie Vondra emerged as the Beavers' top playmaker with a a trio of assists and a few steals.
Claire Perhach entered the game as a reserve and led the bench with 6 points, and Chauhan and
Milan Robinson each picked up five boards in the contest.
