Chase Pagon tallied his ninth double-double of the 2022-23 season as the Caltech men's basketball team faced the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in a Wednesday night SCIAC matchup.
Pagon claimed the first points of the contest with a three-pointer on the Beavers' second possession, and after the Sagehens responded with baskets of their own to take the lead, sophomore
James Downs nailed a three-pointer and then Pagon drew a foul after stealing the ball, hitting a free throw to tie it up at 10-10 at 14:08.
Senior
Kyle McGraw followed with a steal and a fastbreak three, and then Pagon and senior
Ben Juarez scored from deep. Sophomore
Evan Portnoi put a bow on top of the strong Beavers first half with yet another three-pointer with 1:28 to go, and by halftime he and his team clung to a one-point lead.
Caltech shot a remarkably efficient 42.3 percent from the field and 50% from long range in the first half, as nine of their 11 field goals in the opening period came from beyond the arc.
Senior
Pavlos Stavrinides led the Beavers in scoring in the second half and claimed game totals of two steals, nine boards and a game-high two blocked shots, plus a tied team-high four assists matched by rookie teammate
Noah Hicks.
Pagon scored 15 points and grabbed 18 rebounds along with a pair of steals and a trio of assists. McGraw also scored 15 and added a steal and a block.

Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers return home this Saturday to host Chapman University at 2 p.m.
