Caltech Men's Basketball Duels Kingsmen

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2022) – The Caltech men's basketball team faced their westernmost SCIAC opponent Saturday night as the Beavers took on the California Lutheran University Kingsmen.

The hosts presented a tough challenge but the Beavers improved throughout the contest and put forth a tremendous effort, highlighted by some strong individual performances and outperforming Cal Lutheran as a team in a couple categories.

Sophomore Riley Wood (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) scored Caltech's first points en route to a seven-point night as he also collected a game-high nine rebounds with four on offense.

Seniors Chase Pagon (Solana Beach, Calif. / Santa Fe Christian) and Pavlos Stavrinides (Nicosia, Cyprus / The English School of Nicosia) each scored double figures for the Beavers; Pagon tallied 17 points along with seven rebounds and pairs of assists and steals, while Stavrinides dropped 12 points on the Kingsmen and collected seven rebounds.

First-year Noah Hicks (Oxford, Ga. / George Walton Academy) dished out a team-high three assists, and sophomore James Downs (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) had a solid sixth man contribution, coming off the bench for seven points and nailing a pair of three pointers.

As a team, Caltech outscored Cal Lutheran both in the paint and after offensive rebounds.

Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will return home on Wednesday, Jan. 11 to host the University of La Verne. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
