PASADENA, Calif. — The Caltech men's water polo team hosted the nationally-ranked Panthers of Chapman University on Wednesday night in a clash of two SCIAC teams.
The Panthers scored the opening point of the matchup before scoring again at 6:10, though the Beavers immediately retaliated with a goal of their own just 15 seconds later. Sophomore center
Bram Schork earned the team's first goal after getting fed inside from first-year attacker
Justin Hong.
The visitors answered with some more scoring before Schork again found the back of the net. The Beavers took advantage of a powerplay situation as Hong again found the second-year, who rocketed a quick shot past the Chapman goalkeeper for the score.
Caltech found their third goal of the period as the first quarter clock wound down. With just a few seconds remaining, first-year attacker
Joshua Braun passed the ball to first-year utility
Eric Verheyden, who positioned himself around the Chapman defense before firing a shot into the net.
The team took advantage of another powerplay situation in the second period as Schork yet again connected on a forceful shot attempt from the middle.
First-year attacker
Heramba Patil got in the scoring mix in the third period after recognizing a gap in the defense and hurling the ball past the Chapman goalkeeper.
Schork scooped a team-high fourth goal of the evening a few minutes later as first-year utility
Axel Haydt fed the ball to the center who propelled it into the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Sujit Iyer concluded the contest with eight saves and a team-high three steals. Hong led the group in assists with two.
