Caltech Men's Water Polo Battles National No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Beavers wrapped up their string of three away games Saturday morning against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, recently ranked number one in NCAA Division III in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) poll by a unanimous vote.

The hosting Stags pulled no punches in the contest, quickly establishing the lead by drawing an exclusion followed by a five-meter penalty goal, quickly followed by another goal before the first minute had passed.

Caltech frosh Eric Verheyden stopped their scoring streak at three when he buried the Beavers' first goal halfway through the opening period, with classmate Joshua Braun providing the assist.

The unyielding CMS defense held Caltech off for most of the rest of the game, but sophomore Bram Schork broke through with an unassisted goal in the fourth quarter.

Fellow sophomore goalkeeper Sujit Iyer tallied 12 saves in the game for the third time this season, falling just one save short of his season-high mark of 13.

Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers return home next Saturday, October 28 to face California Lutheran University as part of Caltech Athletics Homecoming 2023. Find live streaming and live stats at https://gocaltech.com/coverage
