PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2023) – The Caltech men's basketball team returned home to Braun Gymnasium Wednesday night to host the University of Redlands Bulldogs, the second meeting of the regular season between the two SCIAC rivals.
While the visitors employed a ruthless full-court press for most of the contest, the Beavers found a way to break through while holding the Bulldogs' offense to 19 fewer points than their previous encounter.
Four Beavers tallied double-figure points in the game, with
Pavlos Stavrinides racking up a double-double of 12 points and a personal season-high 14 rebounds. As a team, the Beavers out-rebounded the opposition by nine, including 17 offensive rebounds which led to 12 second chance points.
Despite the final score, Head Coach
Dr. Oliver Eslinger praised his team's toughness after the game, and he was proud of how well they played considering everything Redlands threw at them. He knew to expect a fast-paced style of play from the Bulldogs, speaking not only from their matchup but remarking that they play everyone the way they played against Caltech tonight.
Two other Beavers racked up a dozen points including two three-pointers each:
Noah Hicks, who also swiped a pair of steals and committed no fouls, and
Kyle McGraw, who also dished out a pair of assists.
Chase Pagon scored 10 points all from the field, adding nine boards and a team-high three steals.
Up next for the Beavers is Alumni Day on Saturday, Feb. 4. The men's basketball team will face off against past Caltech greats around 10:45 a.m. at Braun Gymnasium, to be followed by a SCIAC game against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen at 4 p.m.
