CLAREMONT, Calif. — The No. 15 Caltech men's tennis team faced the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Tuesday in the Beavers' penultimate match of the 2023 regular season.
Highlighting the contest for Caltech was the strong performance of junior
Daniel Wen, who picked up his eighth straight win of 2023 with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph in fourth singles. With the victory, Wen now moves to 12 wins on the season.
Also grabbing a win on Tuesday was junior
Victor Li, who picked up the victory in fifth singles after putting in a strong performance versus his counterpart. Li earned the 6-4 win in the first set before cruising to a 6-1 second set victory.
Courts 1 and 2 saw juniors
Kyle McCandless and
Ishaan Kannan force a superset after both players won their second sets.
McCandless, who dropped the first set 1-6, battled to a tough 7-6 (7-1) victory in the second set before losing 7-10 in the decider.
Kannan and his opponent went 4-6, 6-4, before the Beaver fell 8-10 in the superset.
The Beavers will now prepare for their final match of the regular season as they face off against the Tigers of Occidental College in another road matchup. The two teams will go head-to-head this Saturday, Apr. 22, with action slated to begin at 2 p.m.
