Caltech Athletics Announces Beaver Name Reveal Ceremony

PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Athletics will reveal the name of its Beaver mascot on Sunday afternoon, the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation announced today.

Following a poll of Caltech students conducted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the name will be ceremoniously announced shortly after noon Sunday at the new bronze beaver statue outside the entrance to Braun Athletic Center.

The event will immediately follow the department's annual Student-Athlete Celebration, a tradition of recognizing and honoring the achievements of Caltech's outstanding individual and team athletic and academic performances. In addition to recognizing these achievements through presentation, the department will announce the male and female award winners in four categories: Athlete of the Year, Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, and the Director's Award, as chosen by the Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation, Betsy Mitchell.

Both the Student-Athlete Celebration and the Beaver name reveal ceremony will be streamed live at gocaltech.com/live.

The name reveal ceremony coincides with the Caltech Rec Summer Kickoff BBQ, with food and tours of our recreational facilities beginning at 1 p.m. In addition to the running track, cardio machines and weight rooms, Rec members are eligible for a wide variety of summer activities and league play.
