PASADENA, Calif. – On a scorcher of a Sunday morning, the Caltech Beavers faced off against the Pioneers of Lewis & Clark College to wrap up the nonconference portion of both teams' 2023 regular season schedules.
In just the third minute of the match, the Beavers had possession at midfield and sophomore
Kyla Cook played the ball ahead to first-year
Aurelia Kuester on the right wing. Pressured by a Pioneer defender near the corner flag, Kuester floated what looked to be a well-placed cross into the area, only to have it curl inward and find the netting inside the back post beyond the leaping keeper for her first collegiate goal.
The visitors attacked relentlessly with a barrage of offense but Caltech's backline restricted Lewis & Clark to attacking from distance, and a pair of clutch saves from starting goalkeeper
Haleigh Gardner helped earn a 1-1 halftime score.
Elizabeth Field entered for the second half and recorded a game-high five saves as the Beavers kept the intensity up throughout the contest.
Trailing by two in the waning minutes, junior
Jennifer Solgaard extended her point streak to five matches, tallying an assist after breaking through the Pioneer midfield and feeding a pass into the six-yard box toward classmate
Sophia Elam, who tapped the ball past the goal line after timing her run perfectly to stay onside.
Head Coach
Emmy Meyring and the Beavers commence SCIAC play on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at local rival Occidental College. Find live stats and video information at
