Men's Soccer Extends Winning Streak in Rout of Life Pacific

PASADENA, Calif. — The Caltech men's soccer team defeated Life Pacific by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday in a late afternoon home matchup. With the victory, the squad maintains its perfect record and moves to 3-0-0 on the season. It was the third straight game in which the team netted three or more goals.

The Beavers took control of the match early and never looked back after a quick goal about eight minutes into the half by sophomore Etienne Casanova. Senior Rohan Iyer found Casanova just to the left of the penalty mark before the sophomore found the back of the net.

Iyer found his second assist of the day about 11 minutes later, finding junior Andy Dimnaku who rocketed a shot from the left wing past the goalkeeper into the net.

Dimnaku continued his scoring barrage just a few minutes later, as the Massachusetts native made it two straight goals after connecting on a penalty kick to put the Beavers up 3-0.

To put an exclamation point on a statement first half, first-year midfielder Tanish Rao connected with sophomore forward Jack Myles right on the doorstep, who buried Caltech's fourth goal in the 45th minute of play. It was the Beavers' 17th shot, capping an onslought of offense against the visitors.

Things quieted down on offense in the second half, but the game heated back up after the teams each racked up fouls and a couple more yellow card cautions. Life Pacific finally broke through with a goal in the 72nd minute, but the Beavers quickly replied as Casanova stretched the twine with his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Head Coach Duncan Gillis and the Beavers will take a couple days off and then return to the North Field for a Saturday morning tilt against Hope International University. Originally scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff, the match will now begin at 11 a.m. due to very high temperatures in the forecast. Find live stats and video at https://gocaltech.com/coverage.
