PASADENA, Calif. – After trailing by five early on, the Caltech women's basketball team ralled and held on to defeat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Saturday evening by a five-point margin. It was the Beavers' second straight win against the Athenas, and fourth victory of the teams'
last six meetings.
The back-and-forth battle saw six tied scores and eight lead changes, but Caltech prevailed after a surge in the fourth quarter gave the Beavers an insurmountable 11-point cushion; CMS could get no closer than a two-point deficit during the final frame.
Junior
Kathryn Edwards (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) picked up a double-double in the contest, leading both teams in individual scoring with a career-high 34 points and adding 10 rebounds and a pair of steals. Classmate
Saumya Chauhan (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) followed with a dozen points, five rebounds and three assists.
Kodie Vondra (Livingston, Mont. / Park) collected a career-high seven rebounds and led both teams in the assists column with six, another career high for the junior.
