Caltech Women's Basketball Earns Season Sweep Against CMS

PASADENA, Calif. – After trailing by five early on, the Caltech women's basketball team ralled and held on to defeat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Saturday evening by a five-point margin. It was the Beavers' second straight win against the Athenas, and fourth victory of the teams' last six meetings.

The back-and-forth battle saw six tied scores and eight lead changes, but Caltech prevailed after a surge in the fourth quarter gave the Beavers an insurmountable 11-point cushion; CMS could get no closer than a two-point deficit during the final frame.

Junior Kathryn Edwards (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) picked up a double-double in the contest, leading both teams in individual scoring with a career-high 34 points and adding 10 rebounds and a pair of steals. Classmate Saumya Chauhan (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) followed with a dozen points, five rebounds and three assists.

Kodie Vondra (Livingston, Mont. / Park) collected a career-high seven rebounds and led both teams in the assists column with six, another career high for the junior.

Head Coach Annie Tarakchian and the Beavers will travel to Orange, Calif. to face Chapman University on Wednesday night. Find live stats and video at https://gocaltech.com/coverage/.
