PASADENA, Calif. — The Caltech men's water polo team faced off against a tough opponent on Wednesday as they battled the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at Braun Pool.
The Beavers aimed to pick up their first victory against a SCIAC opponent this season against the No. 2 (tied) CMS squad who entered the match with a 3-1 record in the conference.
Junior goalkeeper
Sujit Iyer (Marietta, Ga. / Wheeler) was busy in the cage all night. The Stags applied a heavy amount of offensive pressure; Iyer made 12 impact saves to help ignite the spark for the Beavers' defense. Iyer's efforts elevated the Beavers' defense with the team nabbing eight steals in the contest. Junior center
Bram Schork (Villanova, Pa. / The Haverford School) led the team in the stat corralling four steals of his own.
Offensively, Caltech pressured CMS with 19 shots, capitalizing on five of them. Graduate student utility
Andrés Heredia (San Diego / Francis Parker) got on the board first for Caltech with a goal in the first quarter after going down 2-0. Schork got involved on both sides of the ball, scoring a pair of Beavers' goals on the seven shots that he took. Schork was not the only multi-goal scorer, as sophomore attacker
Justin Hong (Pasadena, Calif. / Pasadena) was surgical with two goals on three total shots.
The Beavers' efforts were not enough to take down the Stags, but they will look to use the fuel they built up in their next matchup against the University of Redlands.
