WHITTIER, Calif. – Caltech Women's Soccer faced the Poets of Whittier College in a Wednesday night SCIAC matchup under the lights at Memorial Stadium.
The hosts launched into aggressive play from the opening kickoff, racing ahead for a shot on goal just 22 seconds into the match that junior goalkeeper
Sophia Steven (Broomfield, Colo. / Peak to Peak Charter) denied. Whittier's relentless attacking produced 14 shots in the first half with 10 of them on goal.
Caltech created a chance in the 8
th minute as sophomore
Marie Choi-Schattle (Barrington, R.I. / Barrington) had an attempt turned away by the Poet keeper.
After halftime, the Beavers' defensive unit tightened up and prevented Whittier from creating as many opportunities, mustering just four shots on goal with Steven saving them all. Sophomores
Alexa Baxter (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista), Choi-Schattle and
Misha Yap (Las Vegas / Coronado) each managed shots at the Whittier net, but both goalkeepers played to unblemished second havles.
Head Coach
Emmy Meyring and the Beavers will play another night game on the road this Saturday in Thousand Oaks, Calif. against California Lutheran University.
