PASADENA, Calif. — The Beavers faced off against No. 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Tuesday night at Braun Gymnasium as the 2024 SCIAC Women's Volleyball schedule winds down.
A respectable start saw Caltech hold the visiting Athenas close early on, with first-year
Ailsa Shen (Calgary, Alb. / Western Canada HS) recording the Beavers' first kill to tie the score at 3-3. Caltech continued to rack up points with kills from
Alize Bakker (Portland, Ore. / Westview) and
Noelle Wilkinson (Bentonville, Ark. / Thaden School), while effective defense kept several rallies alive that resulted in errors by CMS.
Andrea Li (Calgary, Alb. / Sir Winston Churchill) and
Stephanie Wallen (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Everglades) each added kills to the group effort before CMS claimed the first set by a 25-16 margin.
First-year setter
Lana Saopraseuth (Vancouver, Wash. / Union) delivered a service ace for Caltech early in the second set before Bakker knocked down another kill. Early in the third set, Li hit for three consecutive Beaver kills before
Brittany Rosario (San Juan, PR / San Juan Math, Science and Tech Center) earned her first kills of the match.
Li led the Beavers with six kills; Bakker and Shen followed with four each. Saopraseuth led Caltech with a pair of service aces and 12 assists. Sophomore libero
Celine Wu (Potomoc, Md. / Montgomery Blair) came up with a team-high 10 digs, trailed closely by
Karen Cao (North Potomac, Md. / Montgomery Blair) with seven.
