LOS ANGELES — The Caltech Men's Swim & Dive team dominated Occidental College in a Saturday morning road competition, winning the meet by a final score of 206-82.
First-year
Anthony Wang (San Jose, Calif. / Evergreen Valley) excelled in the diving category, taking first place in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive. Wang posted an impressive score of 272.93 in the 1-meter dive and 273.45 in the 3-meter dive.
First-year
Lucas Smith (Hailey, Idaho / Wood River) joined Wang on the leader board by way of a third-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 148.35.
The Beavers picked up wins in various categories in the meet, with a big win in the 200-yard medley relay. The division A relay team consisted of swimmers
Aaron Dumas (San Diego / Cathedral Catholic),
Alvin Zhang (Bellevue, Wash. / Lakeside), Marcel Liu (Natick, Mass. / Phillips Academy), and
Sam Small (Ringwood, U.K. Ringwood School). The team edged out a tight victory with a time of 1:34.08 to the Tigers' 1:34.99.
First-year
Thomas Fenton (Lynchburg, Va. / Virginia Episcopal School) earned nine points for the team with his first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:20.53.
Junior Daniel Khalil (Yorktown, Va. / Tabb) grabbed fourth place in the event with a time of 12:22.73.
Zhang, who was part of the 200-yard medley relay winning team, earned first-place in the 100-yard backstroke event. He clocked in the winning time at 52.61 and junior
Simon Hu came in just behind Zhang in second with a time of 54.54.
Zhang had an outstanding performance in the meet, as he obtained another win in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 47.52.
Sophomore
Tommaso Colombo (Wellington College International Shanghai) made his individual impact on the dominant team performance in the 100-yard breaststroke event. His 59.15 time took first place by a slim margin over opposing Oxy swimmer, surpassing him by just .4 seconds.
Caltech had another masterful performance in the 200-yard butterfly event. The Beavers took the top three spots as first-year
Samuel Xie (Princeton, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School) took first with a time of 1:56.27, followed by sophomore
Reid Nussbaum (Cohasset, Mass. / Cohasset) at 1:59.52, and junior
Siddhartha Ojha (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) in third with at 2:01.03.
Head coach
Andrew Brabson and the team will look to continue their winning ways this Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. Caltech will host the meet against CMS.
