PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Women's Swim & Dive hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Saturday morning, with numerous outstanding performances highlighting the day.
First-year Elizabeth Ma (Burien, Wash. / Mount Rainier) broke the Caltech school record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:41.97 as the Women's Swim & Dive team hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. With the incredible performance, Ma now holds the record for Caltech, beating out the previous record of 10:46.89 held by Danica Adams by nearly five seconds. The record-breaking time was enough for Ma to finish second in the race. Ma continued her dominance in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a winning time of 2:12.37. She now holds the sixth overall best time in Caltech history. To cap off her record setting day, Ma now also holds the sixth fastest time in Caltech history in the 500-yard freestyle clocking in at 5:22.69.
Sophomore Emily Yu (Toronto, Can. / University of Toronto Schools) put up a great performance for the Beavers in the 100-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 55.92 and solidified her position in second place, falling short of first by .68 seconds.
Another great performance in the meet came from first-year Grace Tuhabonye (Austin, Texas St. / Andrew's Episcopal) in the 200-yard freestyle. She touched the wall at 1:58.44 and grabbed third place in the race.
In the diving category, junior Jana Woo (Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) put on an excellent performance. She posted a score of 264 in the 1-meter dive and took second place for the Beavers, falling just short of first by four points. With her performance in the 1-meter dive, she now solidifies her spot in the NCAA Diving Regionals competition later this season.
Head coach Andrew Brabson and the team will and gear up to compete in the two-day Occidental Invite, which takes place on Saturday Nov. 23 and Sunday Nov. 24 at 10 a.m.
