Caltech Women's Swim & Dive outperformed Redlands in a meet consisting of three SCIAC schools hosted by Cal Lutheran on Saturday.  

"I thought the team did fairly well given the tough training block they just went through as well as the windy conditions today," Head Coach Andy Brabson said.  

The Beaver women were victorious in six different events. Four of those were swimming events while the Institute swept first and second place in both of the diving events.  

First-year Elizabeth Nguyen (Renton, Wash. / Hazen High School) dominated the breaststroke events winning both the 100-Yard Breaststroke (1:10.04) and the 200-Yard Breaststroke (2:32.34). Junior Karen Zhou (Trophy Club, Texas / Byron Nelson) finished second in the 200-Breast with a time of 2:37.29. 

Sophomore Elizabeth Ma (Burien, Wash. / Mount Rainier) had a strong day, winning the 200-Yard Butterfly (2:16.13) and the 200-Yard Individual Medley (2:16.89). First-year Lucia Zhang placed second in the 200-IM with a time of 2:18.65.  

Caltech dominated on the diving boards as senior Jana Woo (Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) won both the 1-meter (263.85) and 3-meter (258.20) events. Sophomore Ava Balanon (Vacaville, Calif. / Buckingham Collegiate) placed second in both those events with a 1-meter score of 258.85 and a 3-meter score of 238.50.  

Caltech returns home to host Whittier and Fresno Pacific at the Braun Pools Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m.
