LA VERNE, Calif. — The women's and men's swim & dive teams each earned dominant victories on Saturday as the squads wrapped up their regular seasons in road action against the University of La Verne. The women defeated the Leopards by a score of 180-72 while the men earned a 189-72 win.
One of the meet's most impressive highlights came in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay as the Beavers' top team earned a massive victory and a program all-time top-10 time. The group – comprised of senior 
Brea Swartwood (Mililani, Hawaii / Mililani), sophomore
 Elizabeth Won (Hong Kong / Hong Kong International School), junior 
Natalie Lee (Westfield, N.J. / Union County Magnet) and first-year 
Emily Yu (Toronto, Can. / University of Toronto Schools) – posted an 8:26.24 performance to beat the next-fastest team by over three seconds.
Won continued her strong day as she secured wins in the women's 1000-yard freestyle (11:12.85) and 100-yard backstroke (1:12.83). Yu won the 200-yard freestyle after tapping the wall at 2:02.11.
It was a massive afternoon for first-year 
Beatrice Cai (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton HS), who scooped up first in the women's 100-yard butterfly (59.16), 100-yard freestyle (56.14) and nine-athlete 50-yard butterfly (27.44) races.
The men's team also picked up a win in the 800-yard freestyle relay, as senior 
Andrew Pasco (Haddonfield, N.J. / Bishop Eustace Prep) joined sophomores 
Siddhartha Ojha (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) and 
Simon Hu (Clarksville, Md. / River Hill) along with first-year 
Tommaso Colombo (Shanghai, China / Wellington College International Shanghai) for a 7:11.24 time and the win.
Senior standout 
Leo Yang (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) made the most of his opportunity to compete in the 100-yard IM – a rarely-held and typically uncommon event. Despite his unfamiliarity, the veteran registered a blazing time of 51.99 seconds to earn a program record.
Yang kept up his excellent day with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (51.59) and 100-yard freestyle (46.67).
The meet began earlier in the morning with action the 3-meter diving board where sophomore 
Aaban Syed (Laurel, Md. / North County) picked up the Beavers' first of many victories; the track & field dual athlete won the event with a score of 291.85. The diver soon returned to competition for the 3-meter dive, where he earned the win with a score of 259.85.
Sophomore diver 
Jana Woo (Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) continued her strong season with wins in the women's 1-meter dive (290.70) and 3-meter (313.20).
Caltech also earned wins in both the women's and men's 200-yard medley relays. The women's relay – made up of Lee and first-years 
Cherise Wong (Millbrae, Calif. / The Nueva School), 
Isabel Xu (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and Yu – scored the win with a time of 1:58.61.
The men's team – composed of Tommaso, Pasco, first-year 
Zachary Pestrikov (Rye, N.Y. / Iona Preparatory) and senior 
Lucas Abounader (Austin, Texas / Liberal Arts and Science Academy) – picked up the win with a time of 1:38.57.
Wong went on to win the women's 50-yard breaststroke (33.62) while Xu beat out nine other swimmers for a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (26.69).
Abounader competed in the men's 50-yard backstroke, where he topped seven other swimmers with a quick time of 25.61 seconds. Junior 
Evan Zhang (Great Falls, Va. / Thomas Jefferson) collected first place in the men's 50-yard breaststroke (26.52).
Sophomore 
Simon Hu (Clarksville, Md. / River Hill) nabbed first in the men's 100-yard backstroke (53.82). Classmate 
Kevin Cai (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan) secured a victory in the men's 100-yard breaststroke (58.57) while first-year 
Karen Zhou (Trophy Club, Texas / Byron Nelson) scored the win on the women's side (1:11.83). The rookie just missed out on her personal best by .60 seconds.
Zhou soon returned to the pool where she nabbed an impressive victory in the 100-yard IM (1:04.02).
First-year 
Marcel Liu (Natick, Mass. / Phillips Academy) won the eight-athlete 50-yard butterfly competition (23.22).

Andrew Brabson and the groups will now turn towards the postseason as they compete at the SCIAC Championships, held at East Los Angeles College from Thursday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 25. Follow the action live at
