PASADENA, Calif. — The No. 25 Caltech men's tennis team took on the unbeaten No. 8 Williams College Ephs on Wednesday in a late morning clash that carried into the afternoon.
First-year
Constantin Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne (Paris / Lycée Jean de La Fontaine) posted a brilliant performance in his first-ever appearance in first singles, picking up a monumental 7-5, 6-1 victory over Williams' No. 1. The France native had never competed above third singles until Wednesday.
With the result, the rookie stays undefeated in singles play this season at 7-0.
The Beavers' strongest doubles performance came on Court 2, as senior
Kyle McCandless (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) and rookie
Tejas Ram (Allen, Texas / Allen) paired up for an exhilarating battle that went the distance. The duo broke the opposing Ephs in a must-win game down 6-7 to force a deciding tiebreaker, where the Beavers narrowly fell, 5-7.
Ram went on to put up a strong showing in his first-ever third singles appearance; the rookie lost a heartbreaker in the first set at 5-7 before taking three games in the second set.
