PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Baseball faced SCIAC rival Occidental College in a rare Sunday doubleheader after rainfall forced the matchups to be postponed and relocated from the Tigers' home field.
The early game featured another pitching duel as sophomore
Brendan Flaherty (Narragansett, RI / Lake Forest Academy) threw another quality start, allowing just two earned runs in his 6 ? innings and striking out six Tiger batters. Sophomore
Jacob Alderete (Murrieta, Calif. / Murrieta Mesa) and senior
Kyle Reese (Sammamish, Wash. / Skyline) each pitched strongly in their relief efforts, preventing any further scoring by the opposition.
The Beavers' lone run came in the top of the second inning – despite the games being played at the Caltech North Field, Occidental was the designated home team – as senior
Patrick Donohoe (New York, N.Y. / Bronx School of Science) put the Beavers on the board with a two-out RBI single to bring home senior
Gautam Chawla (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton).
Junior
Jack Fishel (Baltimore, Md. / Boys' Latin School of Maryland) led the Caltech batters in total bases in the doubleheader with a single and two doubles, adding a stolen base in the early game.
Head Coach
Kevin Whitehead and the Beavers will return to the North Field on Sunday, Mar. 10 to host cross-country rival MIT in an 11 a.m. ballgame. Follow along live at
