Women's Basketball takes on Cal Lutheran Regals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Caltech women's basketball team faced off against SCIAC rival California Lutheran University Saturday evening in the Regals' own Gilbert Arena.

The Beavers dominated in inside shooting, dropping 38 points in the paint compared to 16 by the Regals; despite the final score, Caltech also held the scoring advantages in points off turnovers and points after offensive rebounds.

It was a balanced, full-team effort by Caltech with integral contributions from all nine players who came in. Leading the charge was senior Kathryn Edwards (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) with team highs of 16 points and two blocks, also grabbing six rebounds.

First-year Kyra Phaychanpheng (Chino Hills, Calif. / Chino Hills) equaled Edwards' rebounding effort with six including five on defense, further swiping five steals and dishing out three assists.

Senior Kodie Vondra (Livingston, Mont. / Park) had an all-around night with 10 points, five boards, five steals, a block and a team-high four assists.

Head Coach Annie Tarakchian and the Beavers will return home on Monday, Jan. 20 to face SCIAC rival Occidental College at 2 p.m.
