Caltech Women's Basketball dominated Stanton University, 75-30, in Madison Quan's first official win as head coach of the Beavers Saturday at Braun Gymnasium in Pasadena.
"We are super proud of the team's work ethic this week after the last two games we've had," Quan said. "Our goal going into Stanton was to win the first quarter and come out with fire."
The Beavers achieved that goal Saturday, starting the match on an 11-0 run in the first 4:10 of the contest capped by a three-pointer from first-year Isabella Lo (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) as part of her 19 points on the night. Lo also tallied five steals.
Sophomore Kyra Phaychanpheng (Chino Hills, Calif. / Chino Hills) led the Beavers in scoring with 21 points as part of her 11-rebound double-double. Sophomore Louise Scriven (Paraparaumu Beach, New Zealand / Paraparaumu College) also tallied a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. Sophomore Zeynep Goktepe (Istanbul, Turkey / The MacDuffie School) chipped in 18 points and matched a career high with six assists.
Caltech dominated in the transition game, scoring 28 points off turnovers and 13 fast-break points compared to just two points in each of those categories for Stanton.
"Always nice going into Thanksgiving with a win," Quan said.
Caltech returns to action December 3 against Pomona-Pitzer at 7:00 p.m. in Braun gymnasium.
