Men's Basketball Clashes with Amherst

Box Score

Caltech Men's Basketball faced Amherst as First-year Dorian Glogovac (Vancouver, B.C. / St. George's School Vancouver) scored a career-high 36 points on Tuesday afternoon at Braun Gymnasium in Pasadena.

"The grit was good, we didn't fold," Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger said. "We gave ourselves opportunities."

Glogovac's offensive assault was aided by five assists from sophomore guard Josh Balami (Woodbury, Minn. / Math and Science Academy), who scored 13 points of his own on Tuesday. The two players each played over 37 minutes in the contest and orchestrated the Beaver offense.

"Dorian is a terrific player and is learning all the time," Dr. Eslinger said. "Defenses will try to stop him and he's going to keep working hard to develop."

Caltech outscored Amherst 35-30 in the second half. Balami and Glogovac joined forces for a 10-2 scoring run to start the half with six of Balami's points coming in the first 3:10 of the period.

"We have to play defense like we did in the second half," Dr. Eslinger said. "Once we embrace our philosophies we will have a real chance to compete with everyone."

The Beavers won the battle of the boards on Tuesday, 44-37. In the first half, Caltech turned eight offensive rebounds into 10 second-chance points. Overall, the Beavers recovered 16 offensive rebounds in the contest compared to Amherst's seven.

The contest was the first game back home for the Beavers after a cross-country trip to Georgia that saw them play two games the week before Christmas. Caltech will remain at home until Jan. 17. The Institute faces Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday Jan. 3 at 2:00 p.m.
