PASADENA, Calif. – No.16 Caltech Women's Tennis played host to the SCIAC-rival Cal Lutheran Regals on Saturday, April 19 for the Beavers' final match of the regular season.
During the doubles session, the duo of senior
Anika Arora (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) and first-year
Carissa Gerung (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) took charge early and remained in control all match. After a speedy 35 minutes, they constructed a commanding 6-2 victory. The duo earned five wins over the course of the season, including a lengthy barn-burner against the top-ranked doubles partnership in the ITA West Region.
Gerung continued her dominance in singles. She navigated her first set with ease, serving her opponent a 6-0 bagel. The fireworks continued in the second set as Gerung methodically unravelled her opponent 6-1 for the Beavers' first singles point of the day. The match marked 11 wins on the season for Gerung with just two singles defeats.
Fewer than 10 minutes later, senior
Payal Patel (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) tied up her own match with just as much ease. Her first set followed in Gerung's footsteps, not dropping a game and going 6-0, and she remained ahead on route to a 6-2 victory in the second. Patel finished her senior season with a 7-5 record, with wins against ranked teams as high as No. 5 in Division III nationally.
The final match of the day was a 2 hour, 5 minute marathon featuring Arora for her collegiate regular season finale. Her first set of the match was very tightly contested, needing a tiebreak which lasted an additional 15 points, ending as a 7-6 (9-7) win for the Regals. Arora, however, bounced back tremendously, sweeping the second set 6-0. No stranger to these drawn out matches, especially this season, Arora took the momentum she gathered and carried it to the end as she won the third set 6-4. Her win brought her season record to 10-4, which saw high-profile victories against several nationally ranked teams, including against SCIAC rival No. 2 CMS earlier this year.
In addition to the seniors who took the court on Saturday, Caltech Women's Tennis also boasts five first-year players who achieved notable wins in 2024-2025, making the future a bright one for the Beavers.
