TEMPE, Ariz. – Caltech Women's Tennis came in ranked as the 24th team in Division III on Wednesday morning, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's latest rankings. In the regional rankings, the Beavers slotted in at sixth for the West region.
Also appearing on the rankings list in singles were seniors Yoyo Benchetrit (Toronto, Ont. / St. Clements) and Payal Patel (Cumming, GA / South Forsyth). Benchetrit has been a consistent top 15 player according to the last three ITA rankings, and for good reason. Benchetrit collected five singles wins on the season to go with two doubles wins. She consistently finds herself playing on court one, making it impressive that she's been able to go out and win on a match-by-match basis.
Patel comes into Wednesday as the 18th-ranked player in the region, and rightfully so. Patel has accumulated seven singles wins on the season, the third most on the team, and has been dominant against top-tier competition. Patel is 4-0 in her time playing on court two this season, and has also contributed three wins for the Beavers in doubles.
Additionally, the team has received top 25 rankings over the last month due to the heroic performances from Senior Anika Arora (Fremont, CA / Mission San Jose) and first-year Carissa Gerung (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit). Arora has been on a tear, winning her last four matches and ranking second on the team in singles wins with a 10-4 record. Arora has also put in the work on the doubles courts, ranking second on the team with five wins.
As a first-year player, Gerung has been extremely impressive and has put her value to this team on display with all her winning results. Gerung leads the team in both singles and doubles wins, boasting an 11-2 record playing solo and a total of six wins as part of a duo.
Caltech Women's Tennis certainly raised eyebrows this season. The team started the year ranked No. 34 but spent three consecutive weeks inside the top 20, peaking at No. 16 in the nation. Head Coach Nyssa Peele and her Beavers will look forward to what lies ahead in the 2026 season, with an emphasis on improving every day.
