Duan's Late Goal Lifts Caltech Men's Soccer Over Sagehens

CLAREMONT, Calif. – This Saturday the Caltech men's soccer team faced the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, and the Beavers walked away with another victory under their belt. A 1-0 win with the Beavers' winning goal in the second half, this was nail-biting match for both teams.

The opposing offensive outputs were otherwise as balanced as they could be, with both teams making a total of 10 shot attempts, five by each side in each half. Solid defense on both sides of the field forced most of the shots to be off-target, and both the Beavers and Sagehens . With neither team managing to make a goal through 80 minutes and with relatively evenly matched offensive efforts, it was anyone's game.

A total of three Caltech shots were shots on goal, leading Pomona-Pitzer's total two shots on goal. With 83 minutes played, senior Wilson Duan would finally break the deadlock with the eventual game-winning goal, with an assist from sophomore Matthew Luk, securing the Beavers' victory with less than 10 minutes left.

"Today was a real battle against a good Pomona-Pitzer team, and the boys found a way to get it done," said Head Coach Duncan Gillis on the victory. "Our seniors have been showing great leadership, with three of them scoring last week, and Willy getting the winner today. Great for our back line and keepers to keep the clean sheet as well!"

This marks the fourth win for the men's soccer team this season, and the start of a two-win streak. The Beavers will be going toe-to-toe with Occidental at home on Wednesday, Oct. 1, with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
