The Beavers put forward a strong effort Wednesday in a 1-1 draw against University of Providence (Mont.) on the scorching Caltech turf.
"The players put in an amazing physical effort for 90 minutes," Head Coach Scott Wilson said. "With a depleted squad and hot conditions, we were able to manage the game really well and create some good chances."
Caltech capitalized on one of those good chances in the 73rd minute off a corner kick. Having just entered the game, junior Aurelia Kuester (San Diego, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) hooked a low out-swinging ball to fellow junior Nova Wei-Navarro (Bellevue, Wash. / Bellevue). Navarro rifled a shot-pass to the top of the six to the foot of sophomore Nora Kristufek (McKinney, Texas / McKinney). Kristufek found the ball in stride, lacing it to the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 Beaver lead.
Junior Haleigh Gardner (San Ramon, Calif. / California) provided a solid effort in net, racking up three saves on the day and pouncing on several other potentially dangerous chances.
