Caltech Women's Basketball displayed an impressive defensive effort against Whittier on Saturday during Alumni Weekend.
Sophomore Kyra Phaychanpheng (Chino Hills, Calif. / Chino Hills) nabbed four steals, leading all players in the effort. First-year Isabella Lo (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) had two steals, extending her streak of multiple takeaways to six games.
The Beavers were led offensively by Phaychanpheng with 20 points and Sophomore Zeynep Goktepe (Istanbul, Turkey / The MacDuffie School) contributed 15 points on five-for-eight shooting. Goktepe continued her efficient shooting and leads the conference in field goal percentage with a clip of over 50% from the floor.
Goktepe knocked down a half-court three to end the first half to bring Braun Gymnasium and the Beaver faithful to their feet.
Sophomore Louise Scriven (Paraparaumu Beach, New Zealand / Paraparaumu College) added valuable offense as well. She matched her career-high in three points made, sinking both of her attempts from behind the arc.
Caltech continued its hot hand at the free throw line. The Beavers shot over 80% from the charity stripe for their second consecutive game, hitting 19 of 23 attempts.
Caltech travels to Pomona-Pitzer Wednesday Jan. 28 to face the Sagehens at 7:00 p.m. in Pomona, Calif.
