PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Women's Soccer continued to show resilience and determination Saturday afternoon, battling hard on the road against the University of La Verne.
The Beavers produced several positive moments, highlighted by a strong defensive effort and seven saves from goalkeeper Kassie Kristufek (McKinney, Texas / McKinney). Kristufek's 73 saves this season rank 4th amongst all SCIAC goalkeepers.
Caltech generated six shots in the contest, placing three on goal. Alexa Baxter (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) led the Beavers offensively with two shots, including one on target, while Esme Offner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Allderdice) and Hannah Ramsperger (Zürich, Switzerland / Realgymnasium Rämibühl Zürich) each forced a save from the Leopards' goalkeeper.
The Beavers remained organized throughout the match and matched the Leopards with three shots in each half. Kristufek was especially busy in goal, turning away seven shots and helping to keep the match within reach for much of the afternoon.
Baxter nearly opened the scoring for Caltech early in the match with an attempt in the 12th minute, and the Beavers continued searching for a breakthrough throughout the contest. Offner and Ramsperger each tested the La Verne defense with shots on frame, while Caltech's back line logged the full 90 minutes from defenders Misha Yap (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado), Nova Wei-Navarro (Bellevue, Wash. / Bellevue), and Anusha Chatha (San Diego, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy).
The Beavers closed the regular season displaying the same fight and persistence that characterized their campaign, competing until the final whistle against a conference opponent on the road.
