Women’s Basketball Battles Rival Occidental

Caltech Women's Basketball put forth a strong effort on the road against the Occidental Tigers in a rivalry matchup Saturday night.

Sophomore Louise Scriven (Paraparaumu Beach, New Zealand / Paraparaumu College) showed her defensive prowess with three blocks against the Tigers. She forced Occidental to adjust its plan of attack early, as two of her blocks came in the first quarter. Scriven leads the Beavers with 34 blocks this season. As a team, the Beavers had four blocks on the night compared to Occidental's one.

First-year Isabella Lo (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) also helped disrupt the Tiger offense with her team-leading three steals against the Tigers. She now has 13 steals in her last four games.

On the offensive end, Lo tied for the team lead with 15 points helped by her two three-pointers on three attempts. She also dished out three assists. Sophomore Kyra Phaychanpheng (Chino Hills, Calif. / Chino Hills) also put up 15 points while earning eight free throw attempts with her play in the paint.

Caltech returns home to host Cal Lutheran at Braun Gymnasium in Pasadena, Calif. On Saturday, Feb. 7 at 4:00 p.m.  \
