Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Ethan Kopelman

Men’s Basketball Outlasts La Verne

Forward Dorian Glogovac made Caltech Men's Basketball history in a 88-85 defeat of the University of La Verne on Wednesday. The win also marks Caltech's highest-scoring outing against SCIAC competition since January of 2020.

Against the Leopards, Glogovac (Vancouver, British Columbia / St. George's) finished with a career-high 41 points, which now ranks second all-time in Caltech Men's Basketball single-game scoring, behind George Papa's 43 points against Redlands in 1991-92. The effort extended his record for single-season scoring giving him 548 points on the year. In what was a career night, Glogovac also set new personal highs in field goal attempts and makes, with 28 and 16, respectively.

Glogovac was not the only Beaver who had a career night. Guard Chase Williamson (McDonough, Ga. /  Union Grove) finished with 19 points on an efficient 7-12 shooting. Williamson also sank five of his six free throw attempts, including two crucial shots to put the Beavers up by three with just 0:06 remaining in the game. But the sophomore's contributions extended far past his scoring. Filling in for starting center Stuart Florescu (Toronto, Ontario / Crescent), Williamson paced the Beavers with 13 total rebounds, despite being tied for the second shortest player in the Beavers' lineup. Head coach Oliver Eslinger was impressed with the Georgia native's play.

"Chase is an absolute warrior," Caltech's 18th-year headman said after the game. "He took three charges basically playing center."

Eslinger also singled out forward Andrew Koclanes (Denver, Colo. / Colorado Academy), who played 38 minutes in just his fourth start of the season. The eldest Beaver starter also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds.

"[I] have to shout out Drew for the stability he brings. He made a lot of stuff happen," Eslinger said.

Rounding out the starting five, freshmen Finn Fancher (Ventura, Calif. / Ventura) and Ryan Rodrigue (San Diego, Calif. / Santa Fe Christian) both added 12 points on efficient shooting. While Fancher only played 20 minutes after picking up two quick first-half fouls, he hit two crucial second-half three-pointers within 25 seconds to bring the Beavers back into the game.

"The players came together in a way we haven't seen and played with a connectedness that's vital for team development," said Eslinger, who described Wednesday's victory as a "really important win for our program."

The Beavers will look to build off their third conference win on Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. as they host Chapman University.
