Caltech Women's Tennis Shuts Out Linfield

PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Women's Tennis kicked off the week against the Linfield Wildcats, picking up another team victory in an efficient 7-0 victory in under two hours.

The Beavers struck first with a pair of doubles wins, as junior Polaris Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J. / The Pennington School) and sophomore Naya Kessman (Fayetteville, Ark. / Haas Hall Academy) raced to a flawless 6-0 win on Court 3. Mere seconds later on Court 2, senior Anna Szczuka (Scotch Plains, N.J. / Scotch-Plains Fanwood High School) and sophomore Aoi Kunimoto (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) posted a similarly unblemished 6-0 score to claim the doubles point for Caltech.

Caltech continued its dominant play in singles as Kessman and Hayes raced to perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores to bring the Beavers just one match point away from clinching the team victory.

Junior Hannah Ramsperger (Zürich, Switzerland / Realgymnasium Rämibühl Zürich) sealed the Wildcats' fate on Court 3 with a clinical 6-0, 6-0 win.

Adding a couple more singles wins for good measure were Kunimoto, 6-2, 6-0 in the fifth position, and sophomore Carissa Gerung (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) 6-1, 6-0 in the first position. Szcuka rounded out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph on Court 2.

Head Coach Rachel Viollet and the Beavers are back at it tomorrow at 3 p.m. against #8 MIT.
