Caltech Men's Soccer opened its SCIAC schedule Thursday with a physical effort against the Chapman Panthers, earning a 2-2 draw.
Thursday's match was the fifth time the Beavers have recorded at least a point against the Panthers since 2006, and they are undefeated in their last two games against Chapman.
Caltech junior
Matthew Luk (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) opened the game with a goal for the Beavers in the 19th minute, assisted by
Dean Yao (Philadelphia / Germantown Friends). This was Yao's third assist of the season. The teams traded shots back and forth for the remainder of the first half, neither team managing a goal after Luk's first. Senior goalkeeper
Ethan Hamel (Portola Valley, Calif. / Woodside) had one save on goal to keep the Beavers up one to zero going into halftime.
The second half got off to a heated start with yellow cards exchanged on both sides. The Beavers directed that emotion into their productivity with another goal from Luk, giving Caltech a 2-0 lead. Luk's two goals in the game were his fifth and sixth of the season. He now leads all of SCIAC in goals scored this season.
Senior
Alex Crowley (Atlanta, Ga. / Paideia) manned the net in the second half for the Beavers, tallying seven saves.
Caltech will play next away at Redlands Sept. 19 at 11:00 a.m. The Beavers next home game is Sept. 23 against Azusa Pacific at 4:00 p.m.
