PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Men's Soccer picked up their fourth victory of the season with an exciting 3-0 home win over the Azusa Pacific University Cougars on Wednesday Sept. 23.
Caltech got the scoring started early as junior
Matthew Luk (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) was able to receive a long pass from first-year
Sam Mullen (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley High School), scoring on a breakaway in just the second minute, giving him his seventh goal in as many games. Luk's seven goals are the most by any SCIAC player this season.
The second half started very similarly, as in the 48th minute, it was junior
Andrew Qin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) scoring his first goal of the season to put the Beavers up by two. Caltech got one more before the final whistle in the 86th minute, with senior
Tanish Rao (Sunnyvale, Calif. / Bellarmine Prep) scoring his first of the season on a great cross from junior
Arjun Chatha (San Diego, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy).
Senior goaltender Sam Matthews (Pepper Pike, Ohio / University School) was credited with the win, as he made two saves in the first half, before handing it off to senior
Alex Crowley (Atlanta, Ga. / Paideia) in the second half. The two keepers combined for Caltech's third shutout of the season.
