Research and STEM Activities 
Conudcted a SURF research at Caltech's Kerckhoff Marine Laboratory, studying how cable bacteria, filamentous bacteria that oxidize sulfide in marine sediment, affect the heat wave tolerance of eelgrass (Zostera marina). Heat stress increases sulfide production in sediment, which is toxic to seagrass roots. Is testing whether an established cable bacteria population can buffer plants against that effect during a simulated marine heat wave. It ties into a bigger question about how microbial communities in the sediment shape ecosystem resilience as ocean heat waves become more frequent worldwide.
