Occidental Claims Win Over Caltech in High Scoring Contest

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Occidental posted a 21-13 win over Caltech in a SCIAC men's water polo match-up Saturday afternoon at Taylor Pool.

The 13 goals scored by Caltech were the most the Beavers have scored this season in a conference game. Unfortunately for the Beavers the 21 goals scored by the Tigers were also the most they have scored in a conference contest this season.

Occidental (6-17, 2-3 SCIAC) took control right away by scoring eight of the games first nine goals in taking an 8-1 advantage after the first quarter. The Tigers continued their momentum in the second eight minutes of action as they went into halftime with a 17-2 edge.

The Caltech offense picked it up in the second half by scoring three goals in the third quarter and eight goal in the fourth period but Occidental's offense was too much on the afternoon.

Jack Blackwood scored a team high nine goals for the Beavers. Adam Kahn, James Wu, Thomas Kwong and Daniel Sexton each posted a goal for Caltech (0-18, 0-5).

Thomas Heavey made four saves in goals for the visitors.
