La VERNE, Calif. – The La Verne men's water polo team jumped out early and never looked back as they posted a 19-3 victory over Caltech on Saturday afternoon.
The Leopards, ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division III coaches poll, scored seven goals in the first frame as they raced out to a seven goals advantage in the game's opening eight minutes. Adam Khan got the Beavers on the board less than a minute into the second period. However, the Leopards onslaught continued as they scored five unanswered goals to close the stanza as they held a 12-1 edge at the halftime horn.
La Verne eventually upped their lead to 16-1 before another Khan goal with one second left in the third period made the score 16-2. Khan finished off his hat trick early in the fourth period. He found the back of the net with 6:52 left in the contest. Unfortunately that would be the final goal of the day for the Beavers as the Leopards cruised to the win.
Daniel Sexton tied Khan with a team high five shots but couldn't find the back of the net.
