CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Coming off an historic win, the Caltech men's water polo team played four-games in a two-day stretch at the annual Covergence Tournament hosted by the Claremont schools and the University of La Verne.

Connecticut 20, Caltech 8
Less than 24 hours after beating the Camels, the east coast school exacted a measure of revenge by posting a 20-9 win over Caltech.

Connecticut scored the first two goals of the contest in the opening minutes before the Beavers responded with three unanswered goals in taking a 3-2 lead with 2:47 left in the period. The Camels came back by scoring three of the final four goals of the period.
Leading 5-4 to start the second period, Connecticut outscored the Beavers 3-0 in the stanza in taking an 8-4 lead at intermission. The Camels offense exploded for eight goals in the third period while Caltech answered with three goals of their as Connecticut took 16-7 edge heading into the final frame.
The Camels cemented their victory by holding a 4-2 edge in the final frame.

Vanguard 16, Caltech 10
Although the Beavers fought back from an early deficit they couldn't complete the comeback in falling to Vanguard 16-10 during their second game of the day.

The Lions outscored Caltech 5-1 in each of the first two periods as they took a 10-2 lead at halftime. After stretching their lead to 11-2, the Beavers began their comeback. Caltech scored the game's next six goals lead by Dan Sexton's hat trick. Jack Blackwood chipped in two goals while Adam Khan added another during the stretch.
Leading 11-8 with 5:48 left in the game, Vanguard finished the game on a 5-2 scoring spurt to put to rest any hopes of a Caltech win.

Saturday, Oct. 8
Penn State-Behrend 12, Caltech 9 (OT)
The Beavers dropped a heart breaker to PSU-Behrend to start Saturday's two-game slate.
After falling behind 3-0 after the first period, the Beavers fought back in the second frame by outscoring PSU-Behrend 3-1. The Beavers trio of Jerome Skelly, Joshua Hardenbrook and Brain Penserini put goals on the board to get Caltech back into the contest.

The Nittany Lions increased their lead to four goals at 8-4 with 6:35 left in the game. An undaunted Beavers squad fought back with a furious rally started with a Daniel Sexton goal with 4:05 remaining. Less than a minute later Tommy Kwang scored to bring the Beavers within 8-6.
Jack Blackwood put the Beavers down just one at 8-7 with 1:49 left. After a defensive stop, Sexton scored the game tying goal with 38 ticks remaining on the clock. After a scoreless opening extra session, PSU-Behrend scored two goals to go up 10-8 with 1:22 left. A Blackwood goal with just over a minute remaining gave the Beavers hope but the Nittany Lions scored on their next possession to seal the win before adding an insurance goal with 14 remaining.

Fresno Pacific 23, Caltech 9
Playing their fifth game in less than 48 hours proved to something of a challenge for the Beavers as they fell to Fresno Pacific.

The Sunbirds scored four unanwered goals to start the game before Joshua Hardenbrook put the Beavers on the board. Fresno Pacific continued their offensive attack with three straight goals to go up 7-1 after the first eight minues.
A high scoring second period saw the Sunbirds increase their lead as they posted a 6-3 edge in the frame. During the second period the Beavers got a pair of goals from Jack Blackwood and another tally from Adam Khan.
Fresno Pacific outscored the Beavers 3-2 in the third period then 7-1 in the final stanza to seal the win.
