Blackwood Scores in Fifth Straight Game at No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2015) – Senior James Blackwood (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) netted for the fifth straight game but the Caltech men's water polo team fell at the hands of Division III No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday evening.

The Sagehens defended their home pool in a 19-3 victory to improve to 10-13 overall and 2-3 in the SCIAC while the Beavers drop to 7-14 (0-5).

Caltech hung close through the first quarter, after which the Beavers trailed just 3-1.  Pomona-Pitzer blew the doors off in the second quarter, however, to lead 9-2 at the half and rode a 10-1 advantage in the second half to the final 19-3 score line.

Blackwood opened the scoring for Caltech in the first quarter, followed by senior Patric Eck (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) in the second on an assist from junior Christopher Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Serra) and junior Jordan Bonilla (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) in the third via an assist by freshman Billy Bloomquist (Campbell, Calif. / The Harker School).

Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will take on DIII No. 2 Whittier College (15-10, 4-1) on Saturday, Nov. 7.
