Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. - Caltech men's water polo battled hard but came up short against a tough Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges team in the final tune-up prior to the SCIAC Championships, falling 16-6 on Saturday afternoon.
After sophomore Charles Ross (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) leveled the game at 1-1, CMS steadily pulled away to lead 7-1 after the first quarter. The Beavers were able to put three more on the board in the second quarter and trailed 12-4 heading into the second half.
After a third quarter much like the first two, Caltech shut out the Stags in the fourth quarter and added to its total with a goal from sophomore Eshan Govil (Redwood City, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep). Senior Chris Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Junipero Serra) scored yet another hat trick and went a perfect 2-for-2 on sprints. Ross scored twice and classmate Shaurya Gilani (Chicago, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) added two assists and 16 saves in goal.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will hope for a positive result when they host next week's SCIAC Championships at Pasadena City College. The tournament will run from Nov. 18-Nov. 20.
